Alice Patricia (Pat) Orman

Alice Patricia (Pat) Orman, 84, of Laurel, passed away Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013 at St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings, after a long battle with pancreatitis. She was born Dec. 14, 1928 in Regan, N.D., the daughter of Patrick and Alice Patton. Pat was the youngest of six children raised on the family farm. She attended Canfield grade school and Regan high school, where she graduated in 1946. Pat participated in all school sports.

Pat graduated from Dickinson State Teachers College in 1949. She taught in several country schools and worked in Yellowstone National Park for four summers. There she met Richard E. Orman of Bozeman. Pat and Richard got married later at Holy Rosary church in Bozeman in April of 1952. With a degree from the University of Montana, Pat continued her teaching career throughout her lifetime, teaching in Sioux Falls, S.D., Carpentaria, Calif., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Arlee and Dixon. Pat also worked as field director of girl scouts in Butte for several years. She was a lifetime member and past president of BPOE Does of Red Lodge, a lifetime member of the DAV auxiliary of Montana, and a member of the Studebaker club of Billings.

Pat and her husband retired to Red Lodge and St George, Utah, and later to Laurel. They spent many of their retirement years traveling to foreign countries . Pat leaves behind her husband, Richard, of 62 years; daughter, Janice (Chris) Howe; son, Steven (Juliann) Orman; grandchildren, Rich (Amy) Stuber, Janal Martin, Steven (Amanda) Orman, Kassandra Orman, Sabrina (Mike) Welch; great-grandchildren, Trytin and Tryinatie Orman, Cole Stuber, and Olivia Orman. Pat is also survived by her sister, Rose Ellen McCourt. Memorial services were held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Laurel. A mass in memory of Pat will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Arrangements were by Cremation & Funeral Gallery.
