Belfry man faces vehicular homicide charge

A 31-year-old Belfry man has been charged for a drunken driving crash south of Fromberg that killed his passenger and injured the other driver. Shawn Edward Christman was arrested Wednesday. He appeared in Justice Court in Carbon County on Thursday on charges of vehicular homicide and vehicular assault. Justice of the Peace Kevin Nichols set his bail at $50,000. Charging documents say Christman was northbound on Highway 310 on Aug. 6 when his car veered into incoming traffic. The collision killed 22-year-old Keahrcie Ledesma Reel of East Helena and injured the 15-year-old Bridger girl driving the other car. Court records say Christman's blood-alcohol level was 0.298 percent, more than three times the limit of 0.08 at which a person is considered legally intoxicated. His arraignment is set for Oct. 4.
