Bridger Bozeman bound

On Thursday, the Bridger Scouts traveled to Absarokee for the 2nd straight week, but this time for the Divisional tournament. Fresh off of their district championship, the lady Scouts would take on Winifred/Roy in the first round. Winifred/Roy, while coming in as the 4th seed in the tournament, didn’t back down to the highly touted Scouts. Winifred would take the first set by the score of 28-26, while the Scouts would take the following two sets by the scores of 25-20 and 25-12.

Winifred would force a fifth set after toppling the Scouts by the score of 25-22, however, the Scouts finished strong winning the final set and advancing to the next round with a score of 15-11.

The lady Scouts would then face a familiar foe in the Reed Point/Rapelje Renegades. With the teams knowing each other really well, there would be no surprises. The Scouts would come away with a strong victory, losing the 1st set by the score of 12-25, but winning the following three 25-21, 25-14 and 27-25.

The following game would be against the Grass Range/Winnett Rangers to punch their ticket into the championship. The Rangers would jump out on the Scouts early, winning the first set 25-10, but lost the second set to the Scouts in a tight 28-26 game. The two teams would continue to trade body punches like prize fighters, splitting the next two sets with scores of 24-26 and 25-18.

Going into the fifth set, the Rangers delivered the final blow, winning 16-14. With the Scouts suffering their first loss since tournament play started, it was only fitting that they took on their district championship opponent, Custer/Hysham.

The Scouts put away Custer quicker than any of their previous matchups, winning in four games by the scores of 25-14, 22-25, 25-20 and 25-21. With the Scouts win, the Scouts would once again face off with the Rangers for the title fight. The Rangers would once again take the first set, winning 25-20, but this time the Scouts would take the lead, winning the next two sets by the scores of 25-21 and 25-20. The Rangers would fight back forcing a fifth set 25-18. The Rangers would take a big lead early in the fifth set, but like all good teams, the Scouts wouldn’t go down without a fight. The Scouts would eventually take the lead, but just couldn’t hang on as the Rangers won 16-14.

Kelsey Schober, Emily Tucker, and Shaniah Schwend would finish the tournament with big kill numbers of 58, 54 and 51 kills apiece. Meanwhile Bailey Kilfoy finished the tournament with an outstanding 189 assists.

The 2nd place finish was good enough to punch the Scouts ticket to the big dance; traveling to the state tournament on Thursday, hosted by Montana State University-Bozeman.
