Bridger students receive high marks at JMG State Conference
After months of preparing posters and creating catchy and positive lifestyle slogans, Bridger’s chapter of JMG (Jobs of Montana Graduates), presented their projects at the annual State Conference in Missoula. On April 30- May 1, 17 schools from across the state convened at the Hilton Garden Inn to compete in various events relating to post-graduate situations and participate in leadership workshops.
JMG advisor, Vicki Kaufman said Bridger’s chapter was well represented as many students received trophies for their projects.
Vanessa Peterson won 1st place for her 9th grade poster/slogan grade. Peterson’s poster featured a globe with cutouts of people of different colors and the slogan, “Bringing People Together,” which represented unity and the “importance for people to put aside differences and learn to work together.”
Kayla Christean, who received 1st place for her grade 10 slogan/poster, “Success Starts with Believing,” chose the theme as it fits with the mission of JMG, whose goal is to help students be successful in their future endeavors, whether it be college or career ready.
Other awards the chapter received included: 2nd place for Bridger’s Chapter Banner, 3rd place for Gabrielle Boring’s flute solo for Individual Talent, and Nathan Woeppel won the Chairman’s Award at JMG state Career Development.
Bridger students enjoyed the whole experience, from displaying their posters to engaging in leadership activities with students from various schools.
“It was a great experience because we often were with different kids who were not from our school. It gave us a chance to find similarities with other kids and share commonalities,” Peterson said.
