Carbon County enforces Stage One Fire Restrictions

Carbon County has enforced Stage One Fire Restrictions because of high temperatures and low precipitation during the month of July resulting in dry fuel conditions, poor soil moisture, low water supplies and high wildland fire danger.

The resolution became effective at 12:01 a.m. July 30 and will remain in effect until further notice. The restrictions will not allow for fire works or the building, maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire on private or county owned lands. Smoking, except in an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.

Exemptions will be made for agriculture activities such as harvesting crops, burning stubble field and irrigation ditch banks. However, agricultural producers must notify the Carbon County 911 Dispatch Center and their local Rural Fire Department before conducting any controlled burning and have fire suppression equipment on site. Other exemptions are; *Persons with a written permit, or persons using a fire solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LGP that can be turned on and off. Such devices can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within 3 feet of the device.

*Any Federal, State or local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty. *All land within a city boundary. Violations include a fine up to $5,000 individually or $10,000 for an organization and imprisonment up to 6 months. You can be held liable for all suppression costs and damages if you start a fire. An exemption does not absolve an indivudal or organization from liability or responsibility for any fire started by the exempted activities.
