The Red Lodge Area Chamber of Commerce and CVB were awarded the Gateway Community of the Year title at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation in Kalispell last week. The award was for the Red Lodge "Base Camp to the Beartooths" branding project. Approximately 500 tourism professionals from around the state attended the event that was hosted by the Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development.

“We received the award for the Branding work done,” said Tim Weamer, co-director of the Chamber. “We will have the trophy on display at the After Hours at the Library Thursday night.” He said, “This is quite a coup for Red Lodge and all of the organizations involved in making this happen which includes Yellowstone Country, Red Lodge TBID, Red Lodge Merchants and Lodging, Red Lodge Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB and the Red Lodge Branding Leadership Team.”

“The recognition for Red Lodge within the Montana Office of Tourism and Business Development is paramount to our success in the tourism industry,” said Weamer. “Tourism as an economic development strategy in Red Lodge, and the State of Montana, is key. It is the number two, and fastest growing industry in Montana.” Weamer said that “having the State recognize us as a major contributor to this growth improves relations and creates opportunities for funding and grants that will improve our area, making Red Lodge an even better place to live and do business.”
