Finnish Pride

There was a good turnout at Kaleva Park last weekend to celebrate Finland’s 100th year of Independence. To celebrate the Finnish Ladies of Kaleva prepared a traditional Finnish meal called Kalamojakka, a salmon and potato chowder, with Finn bread and Llmapuuroa, a whipped fruit pudding. Lily Hyvonen, Roberts, helped with cutting the salmon for the main meal and Stan Anttila, Billings, won the raffle prize. Above, celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary is Carrie and John Holst of Laurel. Carrie is wearing a traditional dress from Finland, handed down to her from the family. They belong to the national organization The Grand Lodge of Ladies and Knights of Kaleva.
