The Town of Fromberg and the Carbon County Commissioners have agreed to allow the Sheriff’s Department to provide coverage and patrols of the town starting Jan. 18. The coverage will be for 6 months at a cost of $23,750.
Fromberg Mayor Shirley Miller said her constituents “are really happy to be going in this direction.”
“People have already commented they had seen a Sheriff’s vehicle over in Fromberg and they are quite happy with this,” said Miller.
After 6 months the two entities will look to see if the plan needs to be extended or if changes need to be implemented although Miller believes the town will be looking at $50,000 a-year coverage.
“I believe we can make it work,” she said.
Carbon County Sheriff Josh McQuillan encourages Fromberg citizens to call in if they need to.
The schools won’t have an officer parked outside but Miller intends to talk to the schools to explain the new process.
The response times will alter although Miller believes not by much.
“We’re optimistic about the whole thing,” she said.
