Homecoming Heart Stopper Scouts Slip by the Falcons

On Friday, the Bridger Scouts would have their homecoming football game, but this one would be unlike most. The Scouts had the Fromberg Falcons scheduled, making their homecoming game a rivalry game as well. The Scouts, Wyatt Schroeder started off strong, opening the game by taking the kickoff to the Falcons 25 yard line, and would soon follow it with a goal line touchdown run. Schroeder wouldn’t stop their though; Following Tyler Dravetsky’s 45 yard gain from a Tryston Matt pass, Schroeder would add to his highlight reel. Schroeder shook one defender to leap another, punching it into the end zone, while giving the Scouts a 12-0 lead. However, the Scouts fortunes would soon change. On their next possession, the Scouts would turn the ball over on downs in the redzone. The Falcons would then capitalize with a 25 yard touchdown catch from Devries, who would also have an extremely productive game. The Scouts fortunes wouldn’t turn around on the following possession either. The Falcons forced a fumble, giving the Falcons good field position. Devries would take off for a long run, leaving the Falcons’ Kern the opportunity to punch it in on the goal line. With the Falcons second score off of turnovers, the two teams would go into halftime tied at 12. The Falcons carried their momentum into the 2nd half, leaning once again on Devries. Devries would once again break off multiple large gains on the ground, only to be capped off by a Kern goal line touchdown; giving the Falcons their first lead of the day. The two team’s offenses would go quiet for quite some time, punting on the next 6 combined possessions. However, the Falcons would make a mistake fumbling a pitch, giving the Scouts the ball in the redzone. Matt would take full advantage of the opportunity by finding Trent Goldsberry in the endzone to tie the game at 18. The Falcons would punt on their next possession, giving the Scouts an opportunity to once again take the lead, and the Scouts would do just that. Goldsberry would channel his inner Wes Welker, spinning past his defender on a short out route, turning a 5 yard gain into a 25 yard touchdown. The Falcons wouldn’t go away quietly however, mounting a drive down field, eventuallyturning it over on downs with less than 3 minutes to go. The Scouts would begin the drive trying to run out the clock, but Schroeder had other ideas, taking a run up the middle 52 yards to pay dirt, extending the lead to 30-18. With under two minutes to go, the Falcons would score quickly putting them down by 6. However, the Scouts were able to hang on, running out the clock on their final drive, leaving with a 30-24 homecoming victory.
