Jacob Fox

Jake Fox, 95, passed away peacefully on Jan. 19, 2018 at Beartooth Billings Clinic in Red Lodge, Montana. The son of Jacob and Marie, he was born in Billings, Montana, June 3, 1922.
Jake deferred later school years to begin ranch work at a young age. On March 24, 1946 he married Geraldine “Jerry” Smith. They lived in Bridger, Montana for six years before settling in Red Lodge.
Jake and Jerry’s marriage was blessed with three wonderful sons: Stanley, Randy and Gary. Tragically, all of them died from different causes at young ages. Their love for each other, their ranch and community gave them hope that a full life was still possible.
Jake and Jerry operated the Willow Creek Guernsey Dairy for 20 years while farming and ranching outside of Red Lodge. Jake loved old farm equipment, country music and dancing.
Besides his sons, Jake was preceded in death by his wife Jerry, two brothers and five sisters: Harold, Henry, Molly Geist, Mary Staley, Emma Wegner, Lydia Bernhardt and Pauline.
Jake’s last 18 years we’re blessed by his loving friend and companion, Elsie Martin of Red Lodge. Together they danced and explored the West they loved so much. His life also was enriched by his very good friend Linnhe Reed of Red Lodge. Jake is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1991 the Fox’s “adopted” and mentored the George family when they first moved to Montana. Jake became Bethany and Sam George’s local grandfather. His love, guidance and infectious laugh were ever-present in their lives and will be missed greatly.
If you wish, please remember Jake by supporting the Red Lodge Boys and Girls Club or any organization supporting children.
A casual evening to gather and toast Jake will be planned soon.
