James M. Allen

James M. Allen, 79, of Roberts, a kind and gentle friend of all, died peacefully at Cedar Wood Villa in Red Lodge on April 19, 2013 from pulmonary fibrosis. Jimmy was born May 15, 1933 in the family ranch house outside of Roberts to Harry and Frances Allen. He was proud to live his whole life in that house until a week before his passing. Jimmy graduated from Roberts High School in 1952 and was an avid lifetime supporter of the Roberts Rockets, the Roberts School, the Roberts community and any neighbor in need. Jimmy was drafted into the United States Army in 1957 and served until 1959. After his service, he worked for Emil Prinkki moving houses, and then with his brother Joe took over the family ranch and formed the partnership Allen Brothers Ranch. During the winters when ranching work was slower, he also worked for 10 years in Billings at the Sugar Factory during the campaigns. Jimmy absolutely loved to farm and ranch, raise cattle, and hay in the summers. He was also a lifetime member (46 years) of B.P.O.E. (Elks) #534. In June of 1978 he married Faye D. Engler Payovich and they were happily married for almost 29 years until Faye’s death in 2007. Jim and Faye loved to dance, laugh, bowl, visit friends, and just hang out together. Jimmy is preceded in death by his wife, Faye; his parents; sister, Mary Isabelle Payovich Black; nieces, Toni and Jodi Payovich; nephews, Bobby Payovich, Wayne Payovich and Canada Payovich. Jimmy is survived by his brother Joseph (Mary) Allen; nieces Erika (James) Binando and family, Donna Payovich; nephews Tyler (Lindy) Allen and family, Mark Payovich and family, Nick Payovich and family and Bobby Payovich’s family; step-children, Bev Draper and family, John Payovich and family, Arlene Lentz and family and Darlene Payovich. Jimmy will be especially missed by the important children in his life – Maddisyn, Lucius, Bailey, Brooke, Joseph, Jozelyn, Tony, Blake and Burke. The family wants to thank all the doctors, nurses, hospice nurses and volunteers who helped Jimmy during his 5-year illness.
