Jerry A. Moore

Jerry Arnold Moore passed away peacefully at the age of 71 in Red Lodge on Nov. 13, 2013. Jerry was an only child to Arnold and Rose Moore, born on July 6, 1942 in Billings. He lived in Lockwood and graduated from Senior High School in Billings in 1961. After graduation he enlisted in the Army in Butte, on Nov. 22, 1961. He was stationed in USAOS Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. His major course was a Welder Blacksmith. While in the Army he was also trained as a Track Vehicle Mechanic and Tank Mechanic and was awarded a medal for Sharpshooter (Rifle M-1). He was awarded an Honorable Discharge on Nov. 13, 1964. After the Army he married Laura Sue Hurst on May 15, 1965 at Faith Lutheran Church in Billings. He worked at the Sugar Beet Factory in Billings then went to work at Montana Dakota Utilities for 9 years. Jerry went to work for Montana Power in Red Lodge starting in November 1976. He transferred to Livingston in 1980 with the power company. He quit Montana Power to follow his dream to be self-employed as a welder in Sidney. After a year, he started back to work with Montana Power in Red Lodge, which later became Northwest Energy, where he retired on Aug. 1, 2007. Jerry liked to travel wherever but especially to Las Vegas. He enjoyed barbequing during the summer and having family and friends over to visit. He loved to fish the Rock Creek in Red Lodge. He enjoyed golfing with his daughter Cheri Ellis, Mike Tomicich, Alvin (Rusty) Ellis III, Tony Zupan and numerous others to list. He was the club champion at the Elks Golf Course in May 1984. He passed all his knowledge of golf onto his daughter, Cheri (Moore) Ellis and grandson Jacob R. Ellis. He loved to hunt with Mike Tomicich and Jacob R. Ellis all over Carbon County. He enjoyed going to Alvin IV, Nichole and Jacob’s basketball, football and volleyball games in Red Lodge. Jerry always acknowledged people by calling them either ‘Young Man’ or ‘Young Lady’ because names were never his strong suit. This always put a smile on their faces and a warm place in their heart. He was preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Rose Moore, grandson Levi William Ellis, nephew Rodney Hurst, brother-in-law Stan Hurst and sister-in-law Jane Hurst. Survived by wife, Laura Sue Moore of 47 years, daughter Cheri (Rusty) Ellis, grandson’s Jacob R. Ellis and Alvin IV (Melissa) Ellis; granddaughter Nichole Ellis; great grandchildren Jason and Hailey Trotman, Lillyanna Rio, Alvin V and Theo Ellis and brother-in-law’s Les Hurst, Wayne (Carol) Hurst, Curt (Angie) Hurst, Larry (Mary Rose) Hurst, Jim (Linda) Hurst and sister-in-law Patty Hurst and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Smith-Olcott Chapel in Red Lodge. Interment with graveside military honors was in the Red Lodge cemetery. A reception at the BPOE #534 Elks Club followed the graveside services. Visitation was held at the chapel, at 201 N. Broadway, from 3 p.m. - 6 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Beartooth Hospice, PO Box 590, Red Lodge, MT 59068. The family donated his corneas to Sight Life. The family would like to express their gratitude towards Beartooth Hospice, Hospice caregivers, Dr. Fouts, Mountain View Clinic and Beartooth Billings Clinic.
