John M. McKinney

John M. McKinney, age 59, of Roberts, and formerly of Lawrenceville, Ga., went to dance with Carol Ann on June 13, 2013. John was born on July 24, 1953 in Portsmouth, Va. As Garth Brooks sings in John’s favorite song… “And now I’m glad I didn’t know the way it all would end, the way it all would go; our lives are better left to chance. I could have missed the pain but I’d have had to miss the dance.” John was predeceased by his late wife of 18 years, Carol Ann, and her parents, Jefferson and Libby Hawkins. Carol Ann’s parents lived with them for 18 years and John cared for them as his natural parents. He also continued to take care of them after Carol’s passing.

John is survived by his current wife, Kyle M. McKinney, of Roberts; his mother, Jolene Long, Tenn.; his daughter, Alicia Pickett, N.C.; his uncle, Phil Heffinger, Va.; brother, Jim Long, Tenn.; sisters, Jennifer Aiello, Tenn., and Jenia Hamley, Ga.; step-sons, Matthew Eckman, Calif., and Chris Davis, Va. He leaves many more family and friends to cherish his memory. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19 at the Roberts United Methodist Church in Roberts.
