Joy Virginia Reamy

Joy Virginia Reamy, 88, of Billings, passed away Sunday, Dec. 8, 2013 at Sapphire Suites surrounded by her loving family.

Joy was born Sept. 2, 1925 to Walter and Luella Premo on the family farm near Bridger. She graduated from Fromberg High School in 1944. On Aug. 19, 1946 she married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Reamy. They made their first home in Harlowton, later moving to Bridger, Red Lodge and Shepherd. In 1959, they moved their family to Billings where Joy began her career as a cook at Rocky Mountain College and later Valley Health Care, where she was the head of the dietary department for over 30 years. Following her retirement, Joy and Bob traveled to Alaska and Libby and enjoyed camping.

Joy was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a 25-year cancer survivor. She was a loving caregiver to her husband during his battle with Alzheimer’s and took great joy in caring for her grandchildren. Joy was a mother and grandmother to many of her children’s friends and neighbor and church kids. Joy and Bob participated in the after school grandparent program at Elysian School. They were also devoted to their church, Community of Christ. She found great strength and comfort in her nightly prayers and blessings of the scriptures. Joy was a great cook and enjoyed sharing with family and friends, especially decorating holiday cookies with the kids. She loved to sew, garden, and was always up for a Mustangs game as well as any of her kids’ and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was always their greatest cheerleader.

Joy is survived by her five children, Roberta (Harold) Jenkins, Joyann (Len) Schutz, Laura (Don) Cox, Walt (Debbie) Reamy, and Jeff (Susie) Reamy; seven grandchildren, Lynette (Gordon) Harrison, Angela (Mike) Hakala, Jeanne (Jim) Brooks, Ryan (Kelly Webb) Jenkins, Chris (Michelle) Cox, Megan (LeGrand) Denetclaw and Scott Jenkins; 13 great-grandchildren, Gordon (Ashley), Danielle, David, Victoria, Thresa, Alivia, Kailee, Braylin, Dashba, Dobah, Lafel, Landen and Cecilia; two great-great-grandchildren, Taylor and Lydia; two siblings, Wayne (Barbara) Premo and Wilma (Bob) Vincent; and numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her extended church family.

Joy was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband; and sisters Ella Marie Premo and Pearl Stapleton.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013 at Community of Christ, 332 Griffing Drive, Billings, MT. Inurnment of ashes will be held in the spring.

The family would like to thank the staff of Valley Health Care Center, and especially the dedicated CNA’s and nurses in Sapphire Suites, Rimview and Rocky Mountain Hospice. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joy’s memory to the Community of Christ, or to the charity of your choice.
