What is the reason for this mill levy?

The high school general fund levy is being run as an operational levy to maintain current programs, resources, and staffing. This includes salaries, textbooks, utilities, extra-curricular activities, etc. Why is this a high school levy only? The Red Lodge School District is made up of an elementary (K-8) and high school (9-12) district.

Luther residents have their own elementary district and those students eventually attend Red Lodge High School. Red Lodge Elementary District will not be running a levy this year.

What is the duration of this levy?

Budgets vary annually due to student enrollment, and a combination of state and local funding. For example in 2012-2013, the high school levied 44.3 mills for its general fund and this past year the high school levied 42.07 mills. If approved, the high school district would levy a total of 43.33 general fund mills in 2017-2018.

When was the last general fund levy?

The last elementary general fund levy run was in 2014, while the last high school general fund levy was run in 2011.

Please vote on May 2 or complete your absentee ballot.
