The Red Lodge Rams overcame the Conrad Cowboys with a one-yard 4th and goal overtime touchdown helping to sooth the many heart palpations from Rams fans in the stands and sending them home with a tight win of 34-27 under their belts. Rams coach John Fitzgerald commented it was as a “little close for comfort” but was very pleased with his team. “We’re starting to come together as a team,” he said. “We definitely went through some adversity at the beginning of the year and have definitely figured out who we are.” Fitzgerald was “pleased with what we’ve done in the last six weeks of the season” starting out at 0-3 and then going 5-1. “We had a lot of new faces, it took a while,” he said. The Rams led the Cowboys into half time, 14-7, with touchdowns from Andy Nordstrom, off a 9-yard run and Gunnar Buckstead from 1-yard. The Cowboys came back strongly in the second half scoring 3 touchdowns to Red Lodge’s two, these scored by Nordstrom from a 60-yard pass from Buckstead, and Tyler Metcalf from a 34-yard run. With the game tied at 27 apiece, the Rams won the ball first in overtime at the 10-yard line and allowed Levi Lynde to get the vital points. Red Lodge rushed for 256 yards and passed for 167. Metcalf had 15 carries for 85 yards, while Lynde had 17 for 78 yards. As the Rams progress to face last year’s State Champs Missoula Loyola, hosting them at 1 p.m., Nov. 9, Fitzgerald said there is excitement in the Rams camp. “ The kids are excited and being at home will help. Missoula is a very well coached team and we are excited to take on the challenge. We’re Ready to roll,” said Fitzgerald.
