Red Lodge Rams finish well at the Belgrade Invitational

This past Saturday the Red Lodge High School cross country team traveled to the Belgrade Invitational meet at Bohart Ranch outside of Bozeman. Due to challenging terrain and a very hilly course, times on this course are different compared to other meets.  Coach Schrowe stated, “with such a physically demanding course the athletes did outstanding, I’m excited about the potential for Red Lodge Cross Country this season.  We have a great group of kids that enjoy the success that comes with hard work.”

The day’s strategy for the Red Lodge Rams was to start off the first 800 meters slower than normal, then pick off exhausted runners before the 2 mile mark.  Coach Schrowe stated, “Most of the kids bought into the strategy and had the confidence to go after the racers who started off to fast.”

Eric Dye and Micah Ballard started off the meet for the Rams with a 4th and 7th place overall finish in the boys Junior Varsity race.  This set the precedence for the Varsity boys who knew they had to continue what Eric and Micah started.  Led by Juniors Logan Beck who finished 7th overall with a time of 18:42 and Liam Gildehaus who finished 10th with a time of 18:59, the Varsity boys received 2nd place overall, falling short of Class A Hamilton.  Each of the seven Varsity Boys ran an excellent race. With the top 5 Red Lodge boys (Logan Beck, Liam Gildehaus, Kryn Dykema, Vance Thuesen and Will Haman) running times within a minute of each other, they were very pleased with the outcome.

Not to be outdone, the Varsity girls placed 3rd overall only being outdone by two very respected Class A schools (Belgrade and Hamilton). The Lady Rams were led by freshman Addie Poore, who had a coming out race-taking 4th overall with a time of 22:40.  Close behind Addie was her sister Tiffany who took 6th place overall with a time of 23:00.  As a team, this was the Lady Ram’s best finish of the year and was a great showcase of the depth of talented runners they have. Schrowe stated, “today’s meet was a good meet for a lot of kids.  We still have things we can work on as a team, but I was happy to see stronger individual performances. The Red Lodge cross country team will be traveling to Hardin this Saturday, Sept. 14, for their next meet.
