Robert “Buddy” Mattson

Robert “Buddy” Mattson, 74, of Roberts, passed away Monday afternoon, Oct. 21, 2013 at Cedar Wood Villa in Red Lodge following an 18-month battle with cancer. Buddy was born on March 30, 1939 in Red Lodge, a son of John and Aili (Hill) Mattson.

He was raised on the family ranch at Roberts, and graduated from Roberts High School in 1957. Buddy was a member of the first Roberts High School basketball team to play for the state championship. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed playing a good practical joke.

Buddy served two years in the U.S. Army, and after his discharge in 1959 he returned to the family ranch where he spent the remainder of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include numerous cousins. Cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at the Roberts Cemetery. Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel is assisting with the arrangements. Memorials may be given to Beartooth Hospice, Box 590, Red Lodge, MT 59068; or to the Roberts Community Foundation, Box 284, Roberts, MT 59070.
