Soccer youth finds passes to success

Red Lodge Youth Soccer (RLYS) is producing solid soccer players. Connor Beck, a senior at Red Lodge High School, has signed a letter of intent to play soccer for Evergreen College in Olympia, Wash. Evergr e en Co l l ege So c c e r Coach, John Purtteman, was 2012 NAIA Cascade coach of the year. Beck plays midfield for Red Lodge Youth Soccer and for Montana United in 2013. Charley Vandewark, a junior at Red Lodge High and RLYS goalie standout, was selected to play for Montana United in 2014. Montana United is the premier soccer club in Montana whose mission is to showcase Montana Soccer players to college coaches throughout the region. Montana United competes in Portland, Las Vegas and Seattle and is coached by University of Great Falls men’s soccer coach, Paul Zazenski. Vandewark will play goalie for Montana United. RLYS forward Logan Beck, a junior at Red Lodge High, has been selected once again to play for Montana United and the Montana Olympic Development Team (ODP). ODP is highly selective and part of a national program to train top soccer athletes from around the county for potential national and collegiate play. Last summer, Beck was selected to ODP region 4 in Portland for training with other top ODP players from Montana, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and California. ODP t r a ins and c omp e t e s throughout the western part of the US. Red Lodge Youth Soccer offers competitive spring soccer for boys and girls ages 8 through 18 and recreational soccer in the fall for ages 5 through 14. The competitive spring season runs from mid March to early June. Game days are Saturday with some travel. Sign ups for U18 spring are at the Red Lodge High School front desk.
