Trial set for state senator in assault case

An August trial date has been set for a state senator charged with assaulting his young daughter, his estranged wife and her boyfriend. Officials in the Carbon County Clerk of Court's office said that the trial for Sen. Jason Priest is scheduled to start on Aug. 12. Priest was arrested on Feb. 1 after a disturbance outside his house. Prosecutors say he threw his 4-year-old daughter through a doorway, tried to push his estranged wife down the stairs, tackled her boyfriend and struggled with an officer who intervened. Priest pleaded not guilty on Feb. 20 in Red Lodge to felony assault on a minor and misdemeanor counts of partner or family member assault, assault and resisting arrest. He remains free on a $1,500 bond.
