Wanda Lou May Lodge Updegraff Cady

Wanda Lou May was born on Dec. 18, 1923, in Red Lodge, to Agnes Whittington and Francis Pearl May. She was 89 when she died at Aspen Meadows on May 8, 2013. Wanda was raised on the Golden Willow family ranch near Red Lodge. She attended school at her grandparent’s school, The Whittington School. Wanda later graduated in 1942 from Carbon County High School. Shortly after graduation Wanda served in the War effort as a telephone operator in Washington state. She married the late John (Jack) Ottowell Lodge in 1943. She was employed for 13 years by the Red Lodge Telephone Company. Wanda was a member of the Red Lodge Eagles Auxilary. In 1962 she married Floyd Updegraff, and worked as a private firm switch board operator in Billings. Then she married Robert Cady. They later divorced. Though she had macular degeneration for nearly twenty years, she never complained and continued living with grace, kindness and continuous good spirits. Wanda is survived by three sons and a daughter: Jon Lodge and Richard Lodge both of Billings; Kenneth Updegraff of Seattle; and Cheryl Shutak-Austin of Cambridge, England. Wanda also leaves five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. The family thanks the wonderful staff at Aspen Meadows for the care and support Wanda received during the last years of her life. A Memorial service will be held when the family gathers this summer.
