John Brimhall Brainard was born April 7, 1925 and died Dec. 6, 2012 of congested heart failure.
His family includes his wife of 64 Years, Andrea; daughter, Louise Hoversten (Phil); son, John C. Brainard; daughter, Diana Brainard (Kent Carlson) and her daughters, Starr and Celesta Brainard.
John was a dedicated physician who practiced general surgery in St.Paul, Minnesota for 33 years. He was forever seeking knowledge and adventure.
He found both adventure and great joy in Montana when in 1968 he bought a lot on the new Black Butte Ranch development. He was an avid fly fisherman, back packer, and skier. After he retired he was able to spend about four months of the year at his Montana cabin which he enjoyed with friends and family. He planted and nurtured trees on his barren lots and dared to use power tools to build a drift boat. There were memorable floats on the Yellowstone and the Big Horn. He acquired knowledge of the mountains by attending The Natural Institute of the Rockies for many years and enjoyed comradeship at Wednesday night dinners with duplicate bridge in Red Lodge.
His time in Montana was very special for him and his family.
