Ron Krook, 79, of Joliet, passed away of natural causes Sunday, May 26, at Beartooth Healthcare Community in Columbus. Ron was born on Oct. 25, 1933 in Boyd, a son of Victor and Florence (Warila) Krook. He attended Rocky Flat School and completed the eighth grade in Joliet, after which he began farming with his dad.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. On Aug. 17, 1957 Ron married Lorraine Crawford of Laurel. He farmed and ranched until retiring into Joliet. Ron and Lorraine were blessed with seven children, six of whom survive. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren—he said they came from good stock. Ron loved to hunt, fish, trap, garden and listen to country western music. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Lorraine Krook of Joliet; three sons, Jeff (Ginger) of Roberts, Kevin (Cathy) of Boyd and Kraig (Christie) of Boyd; three daughters, Julie (Bryce) Unger of Boyd, Kelly Songstad of Joliet and Jolene (John Hill) Krook of Lyman, Neb.; one sister, Beverly (Charles) Rankin of Knoxville, Tenn.; 23 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Marvin and Eugene; sister Shirley; infant daughter Donna; infant granddaughter Candace; and nephew Mitchell Rankin. Memorial services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at the Joliet Wesleyan Church, followed by military honors. Cremation has taken place. Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red L o d g e assisted with arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Boyd Community Center or to the Carbon County 4-H Council.
