Joan Patricia Boughey, age 83, passed away Dec.11, 2013 in Red Lodge. She was born on Dec. 30, 1929 in Upland, Calif., to George West and Ruth Nelson West. Joan was married to the late William Reid Boughey, who worked as a civilian at numerous military bases. Joan was a housewife her whole life, raising four children while following her husband to each of his many assignments in California, Washington, Texas, South Dakota, North Dakota, Colorado and Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband William and one son, William Boughey, Jr. After her husband’s passing she returned to Minot, N.D., and then lived in Bismarck, N.D. and Red Lodge.
She is survived by her children, Patricia Summers of Oceanside, Calif., Janet Boughey of Billings, Donald Boughey (LaVonne) of Longmont, Colo., and Lynn Boughey (Lanette) of Red Lodge; 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Joan was an active member of Eastern Star in Minot, N.D., serving as Worthy Matron. She was also “Mom” to many Rainbow Girls and DeMolay Boys in Minot in the 1970s. She will always be remembered for her kindness and courtesy to others. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014 at Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel in Red Lodge. An additional service will be held at a later date at the time of interment in Bellevue Memorial Park in Ontario, Calif. Cremation has taken place.
Donations may be made in Joan’s name to a charity of your choice, preferably any Rainbow Chapter or youth organization in your area. Joan’s family thanks her friends and helpers at Somerset Court in Minot, Valley View Heights in Bismarck, The Willows in Red Lodge, and the health care providers at Beartooth Billings Clinic in Red Lodge who took such wonderful care of her.
