Evelyn Louane Grovenstein, 87, passed away in Billings, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 after a short illness. Louane, or “Moth”, as she was known to her children, was born to Syble Louane Rinker Holden and Frank Bishop Holden in Brewster, Wash. (Okanogan County) on May 5, 1926. She graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1944 and from Emory University School of Nursing in 1948. Louane married Sidney Lanier Grovenstein, Jr. on Sept. 15, 1950. They moved their family to the Northwest, working in Washington State then Shelby and Miles City. The Grovensteins lived in Miles City for 30 years until her retirement as a nurse at the V.A. Hospital and Sidney’s retirement as a teacher. They moved to Red Lodge in 1993 where they enjoyed life in the mountains, birds and wildlife in their backyard. Sidney passed away in 2011 and Louane moved to Billings in 2012. Louane is survived by her daughters, Gail Grovenstein of Roundup and Cyd Grovenstein of Missoula, and sons Glenn (Darcy Morger) Grovenstein of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Frank (Randi Braveman) Grovenstein of Eagan, Minn. She is also survived by her grandsons: Jayme (Kristi) and Dustin Helgeson and Whitney, Emory (Ashley) and Ezekiel Grovenstein, and Kyle and Cody Grovenstein; and granddaughters: Lacy Louane Grovenstein and Georgia Rose Grovenstein. She and Sidney were very active in the United Methodist Church in Miles City and the Red Lodge Community Church. Her family and friends will miss her amazing Southern cooking and her kind and loving ways. A Celebration of Life service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Red Lodge Community Church. Following a brief reception at the church, interment will be in the Red Lodge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the charity of your choice or to the Red Lodge Community Church, United Church of Christ, P.O. Box 786, Red Lodge, MT 59068. Smith-Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge is assisting with the arrangements. Cremation has taken place.
