Shane Cook, Joliet, was charged with assault with a weapon, a felony, and appeared before Justice of the Peace Kevin Nichols, Jan. 23. Cook was released on a $50,000 bail and will appear in District Court, Feb. 7. According to Justice Court papers Cook allegedly assaulted Michael McNeal 5 times with a folding type knife with a 4-5 inch blade at his home in Joliet. He allegedly stabbed McNeal three times in the neck and twice in his side. The victim was allegedly driven to Laurel where they were met by Laurel Police Department and they called Carbon County Sheriff’s Department to assist. McNeal was transported to Billings Clinic by Laurel ambulance, while Cook was taken to St. Vincent Hospital.
