‘Your Forests, Their Importance’ poster contest coming

The Custer Gallatin National Forest Plan Revision Team is calling all 3rd-8th graders for a Your Forests, Their Importance poster contest.  The contest, running Oct. 27 – Nov. 27, 2017, is part of the overall Custer Gallatin Forest Plan Revision process and aims to start conversations with students and their teachers about the importance of forests and foster an overall appreciation of public lands and interest in the outdoors. The contest is open to all schools 3rd-8th grade surrounding the Custer Gallatin National Forest.
Students and teachers or parents are invited to talk about the National Forest in their area and choose one of several questions to depict the importance of forests around them.  Sixth – eighth graders also have the option for a written portion choosing a type of poem or essay they would like to submit on the importance of forests. All mediums and short written poems/essays are allowed.
Completed posters are due Nov. 27 to the local Forest Service office or can be postmarked by the same date and mailed to the Custer Gallatin N.F. Supervisors Office, (10 E Babcock/P.O. Box 130), Bozeman, MT, 59715.  Additional information is available by contacting Mariah with the Forest Plan Revision Team at 406-587-6735 or
“The poster contest is a fun and educational way to discuss the importance of the forests around us and hopefully provide a much more tangible conversation to students about the Forest and a peek at the overall guiding document,” said Mariah Leuschen-Lonergan, Forest Plan Revision Public Affairs.  Finished submissions will be displayed at upcoming public meetings and online and may be inlaid into the overall planning document.
