Additional Funding from FEMA for Flood Recovery

Thursday, November 1, 2018

Governor Steve Bullock and Senator Jon Tester today announced that they have successfully appealed to FEMA to provide support for flood recovery in an additional nine Montana counties.

Bullock and Tester have secured an estimated $1,532,994 from FEMA for flood recovery efforts in Carbon, Custer, Golden Valley, Lewis and Clark, Missoula, Musselshell, Park, Powell, and Treasure Counties. This is in addition to seven counties that were previously awarded disaster designation by FEMA in August: Blaine, Hill, Liberty, Petroleum, Pondera, Toole and Valley Counties.

“All Montana counties that have requested relief from spring flooding will now be provided with the support that they need and deserve,” said Bullock. “I am thankful to FEMA for working closely with us to secure this funding, to the Montana counties for their diligence and for the volunteers and emergency services teams who kept Montanans safe.”

“We were able to ensure every Montanan impacted by this spring's flooding has access to the funds they need," Senator Tester said. "These recovery funds will help folks get back on their feet and reduce the future risks of disastrous flooding in communities across our state."

Bullock appealed to FEMA in September requesting the remaining counties be added. FEMA can provide for 75% of the eligible disaster costs.

Montana will be eligible to apply for additional funding, 15% of the total disaster damages approved by FEMA at a rough estimate $225,000.00. The Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) provides assistance to reduce risk to life and property from natural hazards.
