Andrea Ueland Brainard was born Sept. 18, 1924, and died in her sleep on Aug. 17, 2021, in St. Paul, Minnesota. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 64 years, John Brimhall Brainard, M.D.  Her family includes daughter, Louise Hoversten (Phil); son, John C. Brainard; daughter, Diana Brainard (Kent Carlson) and her daughters, Starr and Celesta Brainard.                                                                                                                          Andrea and John found both adventure and great joy in Montana, when in 1968 they bought a lot on the new Black Butte Ranch development.  Andrea supervised the building of a small cabin the next year, and they planted and nurtured trees on their barren lot.  They hosted family and friends for hiking, fishing, backpacking, river floating and skiing.  After John retired, they were able to spend about 4 months a year at the cabin.  Andrea and John acquired knowledge of the mountains by attending The Natural Institute of the Rockies for many years and enjoyed comradeship at Wednesday night dinners with duplicate bridge in Red Lodge.  Andrea loved the people, shops, restaurants and Wildlife Sanctuary in Red Lodge.  She never missed a chance to attend the Red Lodge Rodeo and loved to travel over the Beartooth Pass even after John's death in 2012.  Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers: Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary, P.O. Box 675, Red Lodge, MT 59068.
