April Weather Summary

By Ray Masters

There are 93 years of snowfall records for Red Lodge going back to the early 1900's.  Although there were snowfall records broken in other cities in Montana this winter this was not the case in Red Lodge (yet..we still have May and June!)  We saw 166.5" this year while the record was in the winter of 1983-84 with a remarkable 271.7".  The least amount was in the winter of 1918-19 when only 43" fell.

This April, 27.5" of snow fell, a bit above the average of 20.9".  The melted equivalent was 3.03".  The mean temperature this month was 39.4 exactly the average.  The highest temperature recorded was 77 on April 28 and the low -5 on April 3.
