Beartooth Humane Alliance Is Here to Help

Thursday, April 9, 2020

To the Editor,

In these uncertain times, perhaps one of our greatest sources of comfort and calm are our pets. They are not aware the world is in turmoil. They only know you are their world and they most likely are getting to spend even more time right now with the people who love them most and best. However, as the future is unknown for so many, sometimes pets are not part of that plan. We have heard reports of shelters beginning to fill up with pets who had to be surrendered because their owner lost his or her job. Although Beartooth Humane Alliance (BHA) has not seen an influx of pet relinquishments at this time, we urge you to consider adopting your new best friend from another local shelter or rescue group. Not only will you provide some lucky dog or cat a second chance for a new and happy life, you will also be freeing up precious space for the next pet who has suddenly found himself homeless.

Now more than ever, we wish to remind you BHA remains ready to help you.

We are closely monitoring any direct impact on pets due to Covid-19 within our service area. I am happy to report that as of this writing we have not been made aware of any health-related need. However, if you are faced with financial constraints, our low cost spay/neuter voucher program makes this essential medical procedure affordable for your cat or dog. Likewise, our Nip & Tuck program (barn cat program) provides free spay/neuter surgeries for your unsupervised outdoor cats, based on vet availability. And should your horses need hay, our hay bank program is designed to help provide free feed for 30 days for those who cannot afford it.

Trouble affording pet food? We continue to provide all county food banks with cat and dog food. Please don’t let your pets go hungry. This food is free to all food bank patrons.

We wish to extend our deep gratitude to all veterinary staff and animal shelter personnel for their continued service to ensure area animals are healthy and safe. Animal care is a 24/7 job and we appreciate all those who have dedicated their lives to the well-being of animals.

Thank you for being a friend of the animals and BHA. Together, we will get through this! Until we reach calmer shores, share the love with your pet and let your pet be a source of comfort to you.

If you have specific concerns or an immediate need, please reach out by calling (406) 446-3500.
