Crews from the Montana Department of Transportation and the City of Red Lodge were on hand last week to scoop up the remains of a recent snowstorm.
According to Ray Masters, Cooperative Weather Observer for the area, snowfall measured 38 inches in January. The average is 15.1 inches.
“January this year was warm and wet with the mean temperature being 26.9, the average is 21.7,” said Masters. “Those amounts melted equated to a 0.99 average compared to this year's 1.82”.”
The highest temperature this month was 56 on Jan. 4, and the low -9 on Jan. 1.  The historical records show the warmest mean temperature was in 1953 at 35.9 and the most snow was 62.5 inches recorded in 1972.

Broadway Players, a collaborative theater group founded by producer and Red Lodge resident Sarah Smith, will stage their second production, ‘Dixie Swim Club’ by Jamie Wooten, Jessie Jones and Nicholas Hope. The hilarious and heartfelt play will be performed Thursday – Sunday, Feb. 14 – 17 in the ballroom of the Bull ’n Bear Saloon (19 Broadway Avenue North, Red Lodge). The performances will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets to Dixie Swim Club are $15 (show only), $45 (dinner and show) and are available for purchase at the Sisters on Broadway. Dinner will be catered by PREROGATIvE Kitchen. Dinner will be available prior to the Thursday, Friday and Saturday performances.

Directed by stage and screen veteran Gena Berghoff, the cast features Lynne Turner Fitzgerald (Vernadette Simms), Marni Echols-Bell (Jeri Neal McFeeley), Pamela Irene Elver (Dinah Grayson), Karen McCampbell Kohley (Lexie Richards) and Aimee Nordlum (Sheree Hollinger). The production’s creative includes Jack Lynch (Set Design) and Lynn Lalle (Stage Manager).

Producer Sarah Smith states, “After the success of our first production last year (Last of the Red Hot Lovers), I spent a lot of time reading a variety of plays when considering our second production. I selected this one because it’s filled with humor and I love the emphasis the script puts on relationships and friendships between women.” She continues, “I know our audiences will love it as much as I do.”

Dixie Swim Club centers around five Southern women, whose friendships began many years ago on their college swim team, who spend a long weekend together every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same beach cottage on North Carolina's Outer Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other's lives. The Dixie Swim Club focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years. As their lives unfold and the years pass, these women increasingly rely on one another, through advice and raucous repartee, to get through the challenges (men, sex, marriage, parenting, divorce, aging) that life flings at them. And when fate throws a wrench into one of their lives in the second act, these friends, proving the enduring power of "teamwork," rally 'round their own with the strength and love that takes this comedy in a poignant and surprising direction.
