City discusses water and sewer rates

The on-going discussion about water and sewer rates for seasonal housing and vacant lots inside Red Lodge City limits continues on.
The City council discussed the matter this week, throwing out further suggestions.
The proposal calls for underdeveloped lots to be charged 50 percent of the capital expenses and curb stop fees instead of the 80 percent originally voiced.
In a break down of charges, an undeveloped lot with a curb stop would be charged 50 percent of the curb stop fee equaling $12.96 a month, approximately $150 a year. Those with curb stop absent but main lines present in street adjacent to the lot, would be charged 40 percent, $8.76 a month, approximately $100 a year. If someone has no curb stop and no lines, there would be no charge.
Undeveloped lots outside the city, that have no water service but have city sewer would be charged 50 percent of the capital expenses for sewer services, that is $8.14 a month, $97.68 a year.
Water service charges for discontinuance/reestablishment of water service would be $60 inside normal city hours and $90 outside normal working city hours.
Another change proposed would be a penalty fee of 10 percent instead of 15 percent.
Another idea is to provide a grace period of 10 days after the payment is due on the 15th of every month.
A public meeting will be held Nov. 28 on this matter.
