The Clarks Fork will continue to rise and fall as the storms pass through and the snow melts above in the Beartooths.

All looks good currently on the Clarks Fork River. “It’s out of flood stage,” said Disaster and Emergency Services Director Tom Kohley on Monday, June 4. “Kohley said it went down about two feet last week.

The flood stage predicted last week, fortunately, was not reached. “The National Weather Service predicted 10.4 feet for Memorial Day but it only reached 9.11.” At this point he said, they’ve deactivated the Operations Center at the Fromberg School.

“They got all ready,” he said, expecting the greater rise especially in the Fromberg/Edgar area. “We had resources staged.”

They had checked with Columbus Search and Rescue on rescue boat availability, gathered together pumps, excavators and backhoes as well as low boy trailers. “But the rain storms moved east.”

Kohley praised the volunteer efforts last week. “Community members pulled together really nicely,” he said of the sandbagging efforts. Over 2,000 sandbags were staged. “The county supplied the bags and one truckload of sand.” Some have now been removed.

There are predictions for the river to continue to seesaw with a rise expected towards Thursday and Friday and then lowering again.
