Deanna Lee Hay/Fendler

Deanna was born in Billings, Montana, and raised on a farm 16 miles outside of Red Lodge, Montana. She attended a small two-room Jackson schoolhouse five miles from her home from the first through eighth grade. After graduating with honors from Red Lodge High School in 1970 she graduated from Eastern Montana College in Billings with a Bachelor’s degree in education.

In 1980 she married Robert Richard Fendler Jr. on the beach in Pacific Grove, California, where he was stationed at the time. The couple then transferred to Germany where he spent four years exploring Europe. After returning to the states, they lived in Massachusetts and Maryland where they explored the east coast together while she worked for the Federal civil service and earned a Master’s degree in education.

In 2000 Deanna retired from the Federal civil service and moved with her husband to Spokane, Washington, where she has spent most of her time working in her garden and volunteering for various community organizations as well as her church.

Deanna devoted her life to helping others, reducing the suffering of animals and to living as sustainably as possible.

Deanna will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

She is survived by one sister (Debra Hay), one niece (Tanya Hay), one great niece (Braelyn), one great nephew (Kobe).

There will be a private ceremony at the church in April in Spokane, Washington.

Thank you for understanding.

Hay family.
