Dolly Parton Imagination Library celebration at library

Thursday, January 16, 2020

The Red Lodge Carnegie Library will celebrate the Dolly Parton Imagination Library (DPIL) on Sunday, Jan. 19, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.  There will be refreshments, face painting, animal petting area, and other activities.

The DPIL was founded by Dolly Parton in 1995 to address family literacy.  Children from infancy to the age of 5 years old, when registered in the program, receive a free age-appropriate book each month that is delivered directly to their home. Since the inception of the program, 120,000,000 books have been mailed to-date.

In Carbon County, there are 100 children enrolled and 47 have graduated (turned 5 years old). Since the program began in August 2017, 2,450 free books have been mailed, with 98 books mailed in January.

The Beartooth Elks Lodge #534 has presented a $2,000 Spotlight Grant to enhance the DPIL program by increasing registration of children in Carbon County and to assist with funding for books. The Grant is specifically designed to address family literacy.

Parents are invited to bring their children to the celebration and to register for the program if not already a member.
