On Dec. 4, 2018, the heavens welcomed another seamstress.  Donna Gayle Bangert passed away peacefully surrounded by family after a long battle with her health.  Donna was the youngest child of Harvey and Cora (Harrington) Scott. She born Sept. 11, 1941 on Mantua Farms in Powell, Wyoming.  Donna, also known as Scottie, spent her days riding horses and finding mischievous adventures.  After graduating from Powell High School in 1959, Donna attended Acme Beauty College in Billings, Montana. Where she met the man she would soon marry.

On April 30, 1960, Donna married Dean Bangert.  They remained in Billings for a short time then relocated near Powell, Wyoming, where she worked along side her husband and welcomed their three children.  In 1973, Donna and her family moved to Bridger, Montana where Donna and Dean farmed and ranched together.  It wasn’t always easy, but with a strong work ethic and dedication to each other, they built their life and shaped the next generation of family.  In 1981, Donna and family set off on another farm venture in Hysham, Montana.  Here is where Donna owned and operated Buds and Duds Shop.  In 1986, they moved back to Bridger to the original farm, where she remained until 2008.

Thru the years of working beside her husband; driving beet and corn trucks, she worked for various businesses.    You could always find Donna at her sewing machine, driving to Billings, or cooking up a meal. She looked forward to her Red Hat group meetings, and sitting on the porch in the evening with a good book and glass of beer.

She was known for valuing strong family connections. Always remembering a grandchild’s birthday, and loved celebrating a family or friend’s life.

After the passing of her beloved husband, she moved to Billings to be closer to her children and doctors.  She lived on her own until 2017, where she made her final move to Sweetwater Retirement Home.  In her golden years, she enjoyed reading, learning how to cook for her celiac, and passing on her recipes.

She is joined in heaven by her husband Dean, son Timothy, sisters Vivian Bishop, Celia Beseda, Ruth Davis, brothers, Keith Scott, Glen Scott, Melvin Scott and her parents Harvey and Cora Scott.

The family would like to thank Sweetwater staff, for the love and compassion they have shown our mom and grandmother.

She is survived by daughters; TaCele Quale (Chuck) of Billings/ North Dakota; Tonya Averill (Jeff) of Billings, Montana; son Troy Bangert of Bridger, Montana;  Grandchildren, Crystal Wright (Luke) of Roberts, Montana; Bryce Herden of Coleman, Oklahoma, Michelle Kokkeler (Darren) of Belfry, Montana; Jadyn and Coltyn Averill of Billings, Montana.  Great grand-children Casey Pinkerton, Tassyn Wright, Cadyn Wright, and Morgan Kokkeler.

Services will be held at Smith Funeral Home in Laurel on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m.  Graveside services will follow at Rockvale Cemetery.   Smith Funeral Chapel is in charge or arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family would like to make donations in Donna’s name to Compassus Hospice Care, 2110 Overland Avenue, Ste 114, Billings, MT or charity of choice.
