Halloween classic to kick off theatrical season

The Red Lodge Theater Company is starting off the autumn season just right as they present a musical retelling of Washington Irving’s famous ghost story “Sleepy Hollow.”
Director Guynema Terry states, “We wanted to stage this play late in October as Red Lodge prepares for its Halloween doings..and what better play than a musical based on the story of the “Headless Horseman.”
The action takes place when an inane schoolmaster, Ichabod Crane, (Dan Erfurdt) comes to the farming community of Sleepy Hollow. He brings with him all his worldly possessions as he seeks a well-to-do wife.  He’s sure his dream will come true when he spots the striking Katrina Van Tassel played by Wendi Jo Desmidt-Kohlhoff.
Sadly for poor Ichabod, the boisterous Brom Bones (JoDon Phillips) is Katrina’s extremely jealous boyfriend.  Matters are complicated even more as the ghostly graveyard is haunted by a host of tense spirits, including the Headless Horseman, the most renowned phantom of all!
The cast is a large one consisting of many new faces to grace the stage. Newcomers include Barb Pitman, Diane Goedde, Dianne Milleson, Laura Hollman, Dan Erfurdt, Wendi Jo Desmidt-Kohlhoff, Zak Beard, not to mention rising teen stars Sophia Boughey, Maria Torgerson, and Jack Cook. They join regulars JoDon Phillips, Bobbie Wooldridge, Chris Benton, Chelsea Milligan, Jim Guimont, and Kyle Archbolt.
The youngest players in the show are the pupils in Ichabod’s classroom- Aiden Freeman, Jesse Anderson, Emily Torgerson, Samarra Quick, Joy Anderson and introducing Julian Moreno!
All in all the play boasts a cast of 34 locals, 6 lovable children, the Scandinavian Dance Group, and dancers from the Red Lodge Belly Dance group.
“The only thing we don’t have,” quips Mrs. Terry “is a partridge in a pear tree..but if that will entice you to come to the show, we’ll see about getting one.”
The dates of the production are Oct. 20-21 and Oct. 27, -28. The show will be the first non-profit theater production in the Old Roosevelt Building. Shows begin every night at 7 p.m. and admission is $10 each. Tickets may be purchased at the door or at the Pollard Hotel.
