Longtime Red Lodge resident, Jonella Florence Yurkovich, passed away July 8, 2020 at the age of 78. She was the first-born child of John and Alice Yurkovich, making her appearance in Butte, Montana on June 29, 1942. The small family was not in Butte long, making their way back to the central part of the state and eventually settling in Red Lodge. There, Joni (as she was nicknamed by family and friends) completed her high school education and married Jack Gribble in May 1961.
The couple moved a fair amount in their early years, residing in Missoula, Michigan, Washington, and Wisconsin before making their way back to Red Lodge. Joni was truly in her element at home. She was an organized, meticulous homemaker throughout, providing the utmost care for the two daughters that were born from their union.
Being well-read and of a curious nature, she pursued various hobbies throughout the years – yoga, astrology, crossword puzzles, card games, palmistry, and computer games. An open-minded curiosity also spilled over into her music and fashion interests. She sported the hot pants, mini-skirts, platform shoes, and ponchos of the 70’s. Rhythm and blues, jazz, and the sounds of Motown captured her musical attention.
After her divorce from Jack, Joni would meet Robert Adams. Over the next 28 years, they lived and worked together building a geological consulting business, Geo-Link. She brought the same meticulous, detail-oriented attributes to her job at Geo-Link. She loved spending time at the office with her daughter, Kandace, who also works in the family business. She chose to work there throughout two bouts of cancer, eventually succumbing to the disease.
Those left behind feeling blessed for the time spent and beautiful memories shared together are her daughters, Tiffany Madden and Kandace (Duane) Hopkins, and her grandchildren Dax LeDoux, Caelan Madden, Elle Madden, and Quincee Hopkins. Predeceasing her were her parents, John and Alice Yurkovich, and her brother, John “Butch” Yurkovich.
