Kenneth James Beggs, 77, passed away at his home Nov. 14, 2019 surrounded by his family after an extended illness.

Ken was born to Keith and Aileen (Noonan) Beggs on Feb. 25, 1942 in Clintonville, Wisconsin.  He joined the Army in 1966 and honoring veterans and their service became an integral part of his life.

Also in 1966 he married Janet Ravencraft with whom he had 3 children; Allison (John) Wollenburg of Red Lodge, Montana, Keith (Julie) Beggs of Naperville, Illinois and Emily (Rob) Payne of Columbus, Montana.

In 2008 he married Sandy Guether, mother of Brett Guether and Bonnie (Chris) Primbas, both of Illinois. After a lifelong career as a nurse anesthetist he retired with his wife Sandy to Red Lodge to be closer to his grandchildren.

In Red Lodge he became very involved in the Elks Club, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He was proud to serve as Post Commander of the American Legion Post 17. He was also a very active member of the Church of the Rockies where he spent many Sundays warmly welcoming friends.

Ken never met a stranger and had the rare gift of making everyone he met feel like they were the most important person in the world.

Ken filled his retirement years spending time with his family and giving back to his community. He loved volunteering his time at the Willows, church and his Veterans organizations.

Ken is survived by his wife Sandy Beggs of Red Lodge, sisters, Patricia Grote, Long Beach, California, Mary Kay Beggs, Barbara Beggs and Jane (Bob) Schmidt, all of Severn, Maryland, and his brother Richard (Anne) Beggs of Clintonville, Wisconsin, children Allison (John) Wollenburg, Keith (Julie) Beggs, and Emily (Rob) Payne, his Grandchildren, Austin and Mason Beggs, Hannah and Callie Wollenburg, Lily, Abby and Caden Knoll and Seth and Emilie Guether.

The family would like to thank Dr. Greg Burfeind and the staff of the Beartooth Billings Clinic for the care given to our Father.

We would also like to thank the staff of the Beartooth Billings Clinic Hospice and Red Lodge Senior Care for your care and help transitioning Dad from the hospital to his home during Dad’s last few weeks. Our family owes a huge debt of gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Cardiovascular Unit at the Billings Clinic whose care and compassion was second to none during a very trying time for our family. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday Nov. 27 at the Church of the Rockies in Red Lodge, Montana.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship fund is being established in his name. Donations can be made to the “Ken Beggs Memorial Scholarship” fund c/o Allison Wollenburg, 109 Luoma Ranch Road, Red Lodge, MT 59068.
