Lady J-Hawks take 3rd at Divisionals

Coach Colette Weber was “Proud” of her Joliet volleyball team after securing 3rd place at the Southern C Divisional tournament in Red Lodge last weekend.
“Overall, I was proud of how the girls fought in stressful situations. They played tight at times but they are young and that will happen. It was a battle to get to go to State,” said Weber.  “We just all have to show up and play focused to win and not a afraid to lose and they will be awesome. We feel very blessed for this opportunity.  I hope they take it all in and play to their potential.”
Joliet enjoyed an opening win over Forsyth 23-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-19,15-7.
The J-Hawks made 59 kills, Makenna Bushman on 21 and Vanessa Nowak on 16 and served up 14 aces, V. Nowak with 5. Joelle Luoma led in assists with 26 with Shayla Webber close behind on 25.
Three Forks got the better of Joliet in the 2nd game of the day defeating them 11-25, 23-35, 22-25. Makeanna Bushman led in kills with 10, with Webber making 15 assists.
This defeat placed Joliet in a loser out game against Colstrip that saw a hard fought high tempo game swing Joliet’s way after they were losing 2-1 in sets.
The final score, 18-25, 25-18, 25-27, 25-20, 15-8, had Bushman leading in kills with 24, Webber leading in assists with 30 with Joelle Luoma close behind on 25. The team served 7 aces with Vanessa Nowak on 3. The team had to dig out 130 times with Luoma leading with 27 and Merrin Schwend- 26.
The victory secured Joliet’s place at State and pushed them to face Jefferson for a 4th place. The J-Hawks went one better, defeating Jefferson 25-21, 25-23, 24-26. Bushman led in kills with 22, Webber in assists with 29 and 2 aces with Schwend digging out 27 times out of 86 and V. Nowak getting 1.5 blocks in.
With another win under their belts, the Lady J-Hawks faced Three Forks for the 2nd time and this time took the game to 4 sets, 22-25, 19-25, 25-15, 22-25, It wasn’t enough and Joliet finished in an impressive 3rd place.
Bushman and V. Nowak led in kills, with Webber on 23 assists and Luoma on 21. Webber and Bushman shared 2 aces each and 43 of the 101 digs the team made.
