Lady Scouts pull off upset of the year

Tournaments are about skill, tenacity, and the occasional upsets. It’s what makes them so fascinating. And upsets do not come any bigger than the Lady Scouts of Bridger taking down the firm favorites, the Harlowton Engineers at last week’s District 6C tournament.

The Lady Engineers had only lost once this season and were coasting in the championship game until the final 74 seconds when Emily Adkins scored a three pointer. The move clearly rattled the Lady Engineers as it was the first time Bridger had led. The slim 36-34 lead didn’t last long but now it was the Engineers who had to do all the huffing and puffing.

As the score teetered at 36 each, Bridger astoundingly found the net once more with only 22 seconds left. A clever play by Serena Oyler drew a foul and Bridger took the extra help to made it a 3 point game from which Harlowton, try as they might, threw 3 point attempts but to no avail.

Harlowton had led by 10 at one point in the contest and were 27-21 up going into the final quarter but something happened to the fluidity of the team as the Lady Scouts slowly eroded the gap between them and the nerves replaced composure.

Emily Adkins and Kate Aisenbrey scored 15 points apiece to help their team on.

Bridger had cut a channel through the tournament, first defeating Park City 38-13 and then Plenty Coups 41-39.

Against The Lady Panthers, Bridger’s Desiree Jones and Aisenbrey scored 8 points, Adkins 7, Jessica Adkins 6, Olyer 5, Cara White 2, and Jenna Kallevig and Sami Fusco one each.

In their victory over Plenty Coups, Bridger had a better return on free throws and were the equal of their opponents in turnovers. J. Adkins got 15 points, Jones 9, Aisenbrey 7, E. Adkns 6, Oyler 3 and White

Roberts girls were also in action but lost their opener to Harlowton 52-22 with McKenzie Pitts getting 10 points, Avery Walker 8, Emma DeVries and Alexis Hess 2 each.

The Lady Rockets then faced Reed Point Rapejle in the loser out game and lost 43-15 despite a valiant effort that saw them better their opponents on three pointer and free throws. Turnovers ruined their day. Walker scored 7 points with Pitts and DeVries on 4 each.
