Legal documentation clinic to be held

Thursday, August 16, 2018

A legal documents clinic will be coming to the Red Lodge Senior Center in Red Lodge, 207 Villard Ave S., Thursday, Aug. 23 from 9 a.m. - 4: p.m. Are you prepared for the future? If something were to happen to you, do you have the documents in place that would allow others to make financial or health care decisions on your behalf? Do you have written instructions on how much life-sustaining treatment you wish to receive? Do you know who your estate will go to if you pass? The end of life is not a pleasant topic to think about, but what you do now can insure a smooth and dignified aging process later. Perhaps the most important thing senior citizens can do to plan for the future is to make sure their estate planning documents are in place. If your wishes are backed up by the proper legal documentation, you can be sure that your instructions are followed now and in the future. The Legal Services Developer Program would like to help you draft, notarize, and file your estate-planning documents to help ensure that your future is secure. The LSDP is bringing a free legal documents clinic to your community! At the clinic, we will assist seniors in drafting: Simple Wills Indian Wills Beneficiary Deeds Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care Durable Power of Attorney for Financial Declaration of Living Will Declaration of Homestead These documents will ensure that someone is designated to make decisions on your behalf, should you need them to. They will also determine who your possessions will go to, they will assist in protecting your assets from collection, and can express your medical wishes should you become incapacitated. In addition to legal documents, attorneys will also be present to address legal questions and concerns of participants. To register for the clinic or for more information on the legal clinics, call Katy at DPHHS: Legal Services Developer Program (406-444-7787 or 800-332-2272). The deadline for registration is Thursday, Aug. 16.
