Margaret Mae “Meg” Brookshier

Thursday, February 21, 2019

Margaret Mae “Meg” Brookshier was born in Bozeman, Montana, on June 25, 1937 to John and Virginia (Metcalf) Weaver, and died on Feb. 15, 2019 in Billings, Montana.

She grew up in Belgrade, met her future husband Joe in second grade and graduated from Belgrade High School.  She is a 60-year alumna of Montana State College, where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and Mortarboard.

After college, Meg and Joe married and soon moved to Bridger, Montana, where they worked and raised their family. Over her 32-year career in education, Meg inspired several generations of Montana schoolchildren at the elementary school in Bridger, where she started the kindergarten program and eventually graduated to first grade.

Meg loved music - playing and teaching piano, and serving as the organist for Bridger United Methodist Church for 49 years.  She played for many weddings, funerals, and special events. She was an active member of Bridger United Methodist Women, Bridger Women’s Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Montana Education Association.  If there was an event in Bridger, Meg was right in the middle of it.

Meg was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grand- and great-grandmother. She is survived by Joe, her husband of 59 years; children Joe Jr. (Tracey), Coleene Torgerson (Jim), and Kathy Batchelor (Darryl); grandchildren Erik and Carinna Torgerson, Kathryn and David Brookshier, Hanna, Laura, Erin and Robin Batchelor; and great-granddaughter Edison Perkel. We will all remember the many books read aloud, board games played, sports games and musical performances attended, and cut-throat pinochle marathons.

Special thanks go to the Reflections staff at Morning Star Senior Living for their kind and patient care of Meg.

At her request, no services are planned. A memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be sent to the Montana Professional Teaching Foundation, 1232 E 6th Ave, Helena, MT 59601, or the charity of your choice.
