Memorial dedication in Columbus

The Stillwater County Veterans Memorial Wall will be dedicated at Railroad Park in Columbus on Saturday, May 19.

The dedication will begin at 10 a.m. at the park on Pike Avenue, Columbus main street adjacent to the railroad. Saturday, May 19 is Armed Forces Day.

The wall contains the names of Stillwater County residents who served in the United States military from as far back as records could be found to the present.

A veteran’s parade is scheduled before the dedication ceremony and will include the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and other veteran and military groups.

The Stillwater County Memorial Wall began in 2010 with an idea launched by Columbus second graders taught by Jeanne Harsha. They, and other students who followed, sold cookies and slippers and participated in other fundraisers to help pay to build the memorial at the park.

For more information about the event, please contact Jeanne Harsha by calling 855-8060 or Larry Tipton at 322-8699 or by email at
