Miltenberger joins Montana Health CO-OP as CEO

Thursday, June 14, 2018

Richard Miltenberger is the new CEO of Montana Health CO-OP, the board of directors announced this week. Founded in 2012, the nonprofit, consumer-oriented and operated health insurance cooperative serves about 25,000 members in Montana who buy health insurance on the exchange and 24,000 members in Idaho, where it operates as Mountain Health CO-OP.

“We are extremely pleased to welcome a CEO of Richard’s caliber to lead the organization,” said Ray Rogers, board chair.  “His experience and record of solid leadership are just what’s needed for the CO-OP’s continued growth.”

“I’m thrilled to join the CO-OP and support an affordable health insurance alternative for our members in Montana and Idaho,” said Miltenberger. “I believe strongly that everyone deserves affordable health insurance that focuses on prevention and treats consumers like people rather than commodities.”

Miltenberger added that the CO-OP’s administrative costs have been lower than expectations due to the nonprofit’s emphasis on patientcentered healthcare and easy access to quality primary care.

“Montanans are accustomed to the CO-OP model because its how many of us get our telecommunications, electricity and even groceries” Miltenberger said. “It’s a model that makes common sense for an essential product like health insurance.”

Miltenberger brings 30 years of experience in finance and marketing, including in senior positions with other health insurers. Most recently, he served as President and CEO of Inter-West Health, a regional physician network. Miltenberger and his wife, Katrina, reside in Clancy. They have six adult children and seven grandchildren.
