Norman Andy Nerlin 'Junior' was born Sept. 26, 1931, in a log house on the family farm near Joliet and died April 26, 2019. He was the oldest son of Andy Norman and Flora Fitzpatrick Nerlin and big brother to Dale, Maripat, Val, Lynn and Jim. He earned his nickname of Junior due to his resemblance to his father and because as a young child he always followed his father around on the farm. It was the name he proudly used the rest of his life.

After graduating from Fromberg High School in 1949, Junior joined his father in managing the family farm. He lived his entire life on the Nerlin farm except for two years (1955-1957) that he was in the US Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Karen; brother Dale; sister Maripat Hagen and niece Julie Hillers. He is survived by his siblings Val Hillers (Joe), Lynn Whitmer (Duane) and Jim Nerlin (Peggy); and his stepchildren Justin Howell and Kim Howell Nerlin; step grandchildren Ashley, Scott and Thomas Nerlin, and step great-grandchildren, Robert and Ty. Numerous nieces and nephews also mourn his passing.

Junior was the quintessential farmer. He rode horses, raised cattle, farmed the land and appreciated the beauty of the land that supported him and his family. His favorite attire was blue jeans, snap button shirts and cowboy boots. He seldom left the farm for more that one day at a time. His sense of humor was amazing and he always had a funny comeback for each happening. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family would like to express our deep appreciation to the friends and neighbors who gave many hours of care and comfort to Junior during his final months.

Memorials may be given in Junior Nerlin’s name to the Joliet Fire Hall, Joliet Community Center, or an organization of your choice.

Pastor Sam Smith will conduct the graveside service at 1 p.m. on May 18, at Rockvale Cemetery. There will be a color guard service. There will be a pie/ice cream social at the Joliet Wesleyan Church immediately following the graveside service.
