Peter Eugene Bertolino

Thursday, June 7, 2018

Peter 'Pete' Eugene Bertolino passed away peacefully on Jan. 3, 2018 in Emmett Idaho. Pete was born in Roberts on Sept. 27, 1929 to Joseph and Katie (Hendrickson) Bertolino. He grew up on the family farm outside of Roberts, where his love for the land, its animals and the outdoors began and flourished. He attended Cottonwood and Roberts schools and graduated from Roberts High School, Class of 1948.

Pete married Jaqueline Kemper of Milton, Washington, and raised their four children on the family farm. Pete’s next marriage was to Alice Bensch with whom he travelled across the US, fishing and raising animals wherever they went.

Pete was a man of adventure and humor. Big brother to Beulah and Donna Kay, he was known to occasionally torment them with the understanding that he was the only one who was allowed to. While in high school, Pete was a member of various athletic teams, played the drums with his father 'Joe' in local bands and greatly enjoyed the mischief that he and his friends made. Pete worked hard, loved hunting and fishing, (trading for a commercial fishing boat and heading out to sea) driving semis (he was known to never need a second try when backing up to load), animals of all kinds and playing a good game of cards. We will miss him greatly as part of our lives.

Pete is survived by his wife Alice, sister Beulah Gibble of Arlington, Washington, four children; Elta (Mike) Ayre, Cheryl Burows, Peter J (Marian) Bertolino and Gina Bertolino; four step-children; Terry Bensch, Cathy Prewett, Peggy Bensch, Bill Bensch and special friend Ron W. Kumpula. His extended family includes numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his parents Joe and Katie Bertolino and sister Donna Kay Chaver. Cremation has occurred, internment and grave-side services will be held at the Roberts Cemetery on June 9, at 11 a.m., followed by a luncheon at the Roberts Methodist Church.
