This year it was the turn of the Red Lodge Rangers U14 team to take home a Montana State Soccer Classic Cup trophy and join the likes of U19 who won it in 2015 and U15 who triumphed in 2016. The U14 defeated Miles City 2-0 in the final, played in Livingston last weekend.

The Red Lodge Rangers played hard at Montana State Classic Cup this past weekend in Livingston. After tough losses the previous weekend, U14 players were steady and impressive throughout the championship weekend. The team won its first game Miles City 3-1, with goals from Jacob Stewart and Tyler Schrowe, then won its second game against Kootenai 4-2, with goals from Stewart, Schrowe and Lucius Payovich. On Sunday, the Rangers won the championship game against Miles City 2-0, with both winning goals from Payovich. Way to go Rangers.

The U18 team’s first championship weekend game against Kootenai was a great display of teamwork, with five different players scoring goals; the final score was 6-3. While the team lost the second game against Livingston 2-1, defender Nic Clardy scored a beautiful goal from behind midfield. The semifinal match against Sidney was tough with high winds, and despite a hardearned goal from Treyton Koch, the Rangers lost 2-1.

On June 2, Red Lodge hosted a weekend of matches with teams coming from all over the state. The U12 team beat Big Sky 8-0 in its first game, then lost a close game to Lewistown in the afternoon 5-4. The U14 team lost both of its games to the U14 Bozeman Blittz and the U16 Lewistown team while the U18 won against Lewistown and lost to Laurel.

A very special thanks went out to all the coaches who led and mentored the Red Lodge teams. Red Lodge Youth Soccer is a completely volunteer-led effort.  If you want to get involved, please contact us at rlysoccer@gmail.com.
