Red Lodge Elementary School District General Fund Mill Levy Information

On May 8, the Red Lodge Elementary School District #1 will be running a general fund operations mill levy in the amount of $25,075.72 or an addition of 1.72 mills.

The impacts of this mill levy means a home taxable value will increase; $100,000 home = $2.32/year and $200,000 home = $4.64/year. Total Mills will increase 1.72 mills.

The elementary school district general fund levy is being run as an operational levy to maintain current programs, resources, and staffing. This includes salaries, textbooks, utilities, extra-curricular activities.

It is a elementary school levy because the Red Lodge School District is made up of an elementary (K-8) and high school (9-12) district.  Luther residents have their own elementary district and those students eventually attend Red Lodge High School.  The Red Lodge High School District will not be running a levy this year.

Budgets vary annually due to student enrollment, and a combination of state and local funding. Mills vary annually due to changing taxable values.  For example in 2014-2015, the elementary school levied 71.36 mills for its general fund and this past year the elementary school levied 77.47 mills.  If approved, the elementary school district would levy a total of 72.07 general fund mills in 2018-2019.

There will not be a trustee election as trustees were declared by acclamation.

Acclamation occurs when only one trustee runs for a position on the board. When acclamation occurs, the trustee portion of the election is cancelled.

Absentee ballots will be mailed out April 20, 2018. Ballots can be returned anytime up to the closing of polls on May 8, 2018 by 8 p.m. Ballots may be returned via mail or to Roosevelt Middle School.

The last elementary general fund levy run was in 2014, while the last high school general fund levy was run in 2017.
